As we work our way through the first quarter of 2026, we remain optimistic for the year and beyond: The improving capital markets and continued growth in the return-to-office here in Los Angeles are creating meaningful opportunities across the commercial construction landscape. As we meet with clients, we're seeing increased confidence translate into action: companies investing in upgraded work environments, revitalized assets, and customer-focused spaces.
At the same time, the momentum building around the LA28 Olympic Games, including significant infrastructure improvements at Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), is adding another layer of energy and long-term investment across the region, further shaping the future of our built environment.
Whether it be commercial tenant improvements, adaptive reuse projects, custom retail environments or aviation infrastructure, our teams remain focused on delivering thoughtful, high-quality construction solutions that deliver upon our clients' vision and our communities' needs. Read on for the latest on LA's commercial construction industry...
The image depicts the updated design concept for the T-1.5 connection corridor, illustrating a seamless and intuitive transition for passengers moving from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, with a thoughtfully planned pathway that enhances wayfinding and passenger flow. It also showcases modern architectural elements, improved lighting, and cohesive finishes that unify the space, marking a key milestone in inter-terminal connectivity with an anticipated public opening in Summer of 2026.
In Q3 of 2025, Mata Construction was selected by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to spearhead the next phase of the Terminal 2 Refresh at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
This work builds upon the momentum of LAWA's broader Terminal 2 & 3 modernization program, including Delta Air Lines' "Sky Way" project—a $2.3 billion public-private partnership that upgraded ticketing, security, and baggage claim areas to improve operational efficiency and passenger flow. The refresh focuses on completing key infrastructure upgrades and modernizing passenger-facing spaces while maintaining full terminal operations in one of the world's busiest airports.
Due to the complexity of performing construction within an active terminal, the project is being executed in multiple phases and operational zones across the Departures, Arrivals, and Mezzanine levels, allowing construction to progress while maintaining safe and uninterrupted passenger circulation.
Key components of the modernization include:
To safely deliver construction within an operating airport environment, Mata Construction is implementing phased sequencing, night work operations, and detailed logistics coordination with LAWA, airport operations, airlines, and terminal stakeholders.
Work is expected to wrap up in early 2027 and is part of LAWA's broader initiative to modernize Los Angeles International Airport ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics and future passenger growth!
We recently wrapped up a new 20,000-square-foot headquarters for Wedbush Securities at the Pasarroyo campus in Pasadena's South Lake district. Designed by HLW, the two-floor project creates a modern financial workplace combining executive offices and active trading areas with collaborative, hospitality-driven amenity spaces.
The buildout includes a boardroom, meeting rooms, podcast studio, trading floor, private offices, and open lounge-style reception and break areas.
A connecting stair leads to a penthouse level with executive offices and additional amenities, while a lower level was built out for IT and mail operations.

Mata Construction is a proud supporter of Run It Women's Workforce, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building and advancing careers for women in the construction industry.
Earlier this month, Run It's Educational Career Fair brought together women interested in careers in construction administration and project management with industry professionals who shared their experiences, guidance, and opportunities within the field. Events like this create meaningful connections and open doors for the next generation entering the construction industry. We're grateful to the industry partners who took the time to show up, support, and engage with the attendees.
During the event, Bianca also presented Mata Construction with a special token of appreciation for our early support of the organization. As she shared, "Having you believe in us so early on while we were still finding our footing as a grassroots organization means more than you know. We're grateful to be working with a company like Mata that leads with integrity."
Mata Construction is honored to support initiatives that empower women in construction and look forward to continuing to grow these opportunities together!
