— Local, Minority-Owned Firm Chosen to Lead Critical Infrastructure Upgrades at One of the World’s Busiest Airports —

LOS ANGELES, CA November 6, 2025 — Mata Construction Services, Inc., a Los Angeles–based general contractor known for its high-performance commercial and institutional projects, has been selected by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) to spearhead the next phase of the Terminal 2 (T2) Refresh at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

This selection reflects LAWA’s continued commitment to investing in local, community-rooted businesses and demonstrates how public agencies can successfully empower local contractors through major capital projects. Mata Construction will serve as General Contractor for two major construction packages, marking a milestone in the firm’s growing portfolio of complex infrastructure and finish work.

“We're proud to partner with LAWA to build the next generation of infrastructure and facilities at LAX,” said Nick Mata, Founder & President of Mata Construction. “This effort goes beyond construction—it’s about creating opportunity and strengthening local partnerships. LAWA is setting the standard by engaging local firms like ours and showing how public investment can truly uplift the communities it serves.”

This work builds on the momentum of LAWA’s broader Terminal 2–3 modernization program, including Delta Air Lines’ “Sky Way” project—a $2.3 billion public-private partnership that has already upgraded ticketing, security, and baggage claim areas.

The T2 Refresh directly addresses remaining infrastructure gaps and improves vertical and horizontal terminal connectivity to meet projected passenger demand.

Investing in Los Angeles

LAWA’s selection of Mata Construction is more than a project award—it’s a clear investment in Los Angeles' local economy. In an industry where many public agencies say they support community-based hiring, LAWA is proving it can be done—effectively and at scale.

Mata Construction’s deep local ties, hands-on approach, and coordination with city agencies make it uniquely positioned to lead this work. The company brings more than 30 years of experience and a proven track record of delivering high-profile projects, such as:

• A 225,000-square-foot, nine-floor office headquarters for a private technology firm

• A 116,000-square-foot museum for Hauser & Wirth

• A 66,000-square-foot workplace for ARUP in Downtown Los Angeles

• A seven-story renovation for CHIRLA’s community advocacy hub

• Multi-level buildout for LACMA, blending technical expertise with cultural sensitivity

Mata Construction’s partnership exemplifies how public infrastructure projects can drive real-world equity, channeling opportunities into historically underrepresented communities and reinforcing LA’s leadership in inclusive development.

“We see this as a model for how major cities can partner with local, diverse businesses to get world-class results,” said Mata. “LAWA is showing other agencies what’s possible when commitment meets action.”
